Eric Sloan set the nation’s leading mark in the triple jump with a distance of 54-0 feet! He broke the stadium record distance at the
De Anza Invitational and re broke Delta’s school record (53-6) which he earned last year.
Baseball went 4-0 in Big 8 play to remain undefeated at 18-0!
Mustang women’s basketball played their hearts out in a semifinal loss at the CCCAA State Championships at Cerritos College. In recognition of the team’s success head coach Gina Johnson was named the NorCal Coach of the Year! Thank you to the large crowd of family, friends, and Delta faculty/staff who made the trip down south to support their team.
Our home events this week are: Baseball Thursday at 2:30, Swimming Invitational Saturday at 10:00, and a Softball doubleheader Saturday at noon.
Baseball: The Mustangs are still undefeated at 18-0. This past week they went 4-0 in Big 8 play sweeping Santa Rosa (4-0, 5-1, 10-4) and today defeating American River 8-5. This week they have two more games against American River with the home game on Thursday at 2:30.
Women’s Basketball: The Mustangs lost to Mt. Sac in the state semifinals 53-60 to finish 3rd in the state for the second year in a row. Another great season! Individual honors include Selina Moore named 1st team All-State, Nishalina Buksh named Academic All-State, and Gina Johnson named the NorCal Coach of The Year.
Men’s Golf: Men’s golf finished 3rd in Big 8 #6 at Whitney Oaks Golf Course in Rocklin. Final scores were: (Par 71) Santa Rosa 382, Folsom 402, Delta 423, Am River 426, Sierra 432, and Modesto 430. Delta individual scores were Nathan Mallett 81, Eric Lewis 83, George Thomas 84, Raymon Tira 86, Konner Keefer 89, and Sean Beach 89. They have a break from competition this week and compete again on March 24th.
Softball: The Mustangs went 2-2 this week. They defeated Santa Rosa 4-1, lost two to CRC (3-6, 4-7) and today defeated ARC 7-6 in 9 innings. They are 15-10 on the year. This Saturday they have a double header at home vs Diablo Valley starting at noon.
Swimming and Diving: The teams swept Shasta in home meet with the men winning 91-15 and the women 95-11. Jon Sotelo had three victories for the Mustangs. He won individually in the 50 freestyle (22.79) and teamed with Tyler Maroney, Everett Vernon and Ian Torres to with the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.28). Sotelo, Torres, Kevin Oetken and Julian Carvajal won the medley relay (1:45.90). On the women’s side Megan Jessen won the one-meter diving competition (157.425) and the three-meter (106.95). They are hosting the Delta Invitational at 10:00 this Saturday.
Track & Field: Last week they competed at the DeAnza Invitational. Top performances by the men included Eric Sloan’s nation leading leap of 54 ft in the triple jump, Melvin Flax 1st shot 2nd discus, Andre Lindsey 1st in 110 Hurdles, Khari Dobbins 1st 400, Jermaine Williams 2nd 400, William Mafi 2nd 100, the 4 X 100 team finished 1st, and Delta finished 2nd (Ben Deckert) and 3rd (Walter Warneke) in the pol vault. The women’s top performances included Celeste Sterling 3rd in shot and Javelin, Isabella Iohsen 1st hammer, Ronieka Robinson 3rd 100 3rd long, Nassima Barksdale 2nd 100 3rd 400, Zahra Momini 2nd 5000, Antonique Newson-Henry 3rd 110 hurdles, Erica Roboncho 2nd pole vault and 4 X 100 relay 1st. This Friday they compete in the Hornet Invitational at CSU Sacramento.
