Updated Mar 11, 2015 at 7:56 PMThe name and logo of Stockton’s new American Hockey League franchise has been revealed.
The Stockton Heat was officially introduced Wednesday night at a ceremony at University Plaza Waterfront Hotel. The announcement was made by Stockton president Dave Piecuch between the first and second periods at the Stockton Thunder’s watch party.
The franchise, which is owned by the NHL’s Calgary Flames, unveiled a banner with the red, yellow and black primary logo, and two jerseys – road red and home white. There will also be a black jersey and alternate logos.
“I think this is a great name for this area, and fans will grow to love it,” Piecuch said. “We like that it honors our parent team and keeps the weather theme we’ve had here with the Thunder.”
The Heat, currently known as the Adirondack Flames, will switch locations with the Thunder of the ECHL. The Heat will be part of a new AHL Pacific Division, and the Thunder will play in Glens Falls, N.Y.
